RE: CASH FOUND IN JUDGES HOMES- TRUST NOT THE DSS

The Greek tragic dramatis and philosopher Aeschylus (525 BC -
456 BC) said "in war, truth is the first casualty".
It is in this context that one has to view the absurd claims by the
DSS that massive sums of cash ranging from 2 million USD to
hundreds of thousands of euros and pounds sterling were found
in the homes of all the judges that were arrested in the early
hours of saturday morning.
If anyone honestly believes that such large sums of cash were
found in the homes of ANY of those judges then that person
needs to have his head examined.
The DSS has to say these outrageous things and tell these
shameful lies in order to attempt to justify their illegal actions
before the world. It is called disinformation and misinformation
and that is their stock in trade.
That is what intelligence and securiry agencies all over the world
are paid to do. They destroy their victims before the world with
lies and baseless allegations knowing that most Nigerians will
believe anything and everything that the government says.
It is sickening and pathetic. In any case nothing can possibly
justify the gestapo tactics that the state has employed in this
matter.
The storming of peoples homes in the middle of the night and
the brutalisation and traumatisation of their families, loved ones
and households is archaic and barbaric.
Clearly Nigeria is saddled with a President that is a cross
between Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, King Leopold 11 of
Belgium, Josef Stalin, Pol Pot, Papa Doc Duvalier, Augusto
Pinochet, Jean-Bedel Bokassa, Mobutu Sese Seko, Genghis Khan,
Atilla the Hun, Count Vlad Dracula and Idi Amin all rolled into one.
May God help us.

REUBEN ABATI'S 'SPIRITUAL SIDE OF THE VILLA', BUHARI'S 'KITCHEN WIFE' AND THE CURSE AND PAIN OF POWER BY Femi Fani-Kayode

I read Reuben Abati's excellent write-up titled "The Spiritual Side
Of Aso Villa" and I concur with his submissions.
I worked in the Villa for three years as President Olusegun
Obasanjo's spokesman on public affairs and a lot of very strange
things happened there.
Amongst them is the fact that the two people that served as
Senior Special Assistant to President Obasanjo on Media and
Publicity one after the other, namely the much-loved Mr. Tunji
Oseni and then later Mrs. Remi Oyo, both contracted a terrible
terminal illness whilst in office and died a few years later.
Apart from that many other aides that worked in the Villa at that
time were also afflicted with strange dieseases and a suddem
and tragic end.
Amongst them were Col. Solomon Giwa Amu, Obasanjo's hard-
working and good-looking ADC and Mr. Stanley Macebuh, his
brilliant and cerebal Senior Special Assistant on Public
Communications.
I was so moved by Abati's piece that I decided to share the
following thoughts about the spiritual challenges that those in
power have faced.
When our President can get up and tell the whole world all the
way from distant Germany that his wife "belongs to the kitchen,
the living room and the other room" simply because she dared to
speak her mind to the BBC then you know that he is in the grip of
something evil and that demons are speaking through him.
It is all part of the spiritual dimension of living in the Villa that
Abati was referring to in his essay. The President's mind has
become twisted and he is now posessed by strange and
powerful entities. He needs a lot of prayer.
Yet the problem is much bigger and wider than that. When one
studies the history of our country critically and takes the time to
do the appropriate research, one thing becomes very clear- that,
in Nigeria, politics and the power game is a dangerous calling
and terrible business which, more often than not, comes with a
heavy price tag.
That price tag includes pain, anguish, betrayal, humiliation,
persecution, misfortune, hardship, loss, death, strange ailments
and tragedy for those who reach the top and their loved ones.
It is rather like playing Russian roulette- there is one live bullet in
the six empty chambers of the pistol and one doesn’t quite know
when that bullet will go off when the trigger is pulled.
The gamble and risks taken are not only compulsive but they are
also addictive and at the same time utterly deadly.
Sadly the result is as follows- virtually every single one of our
national leaders and those that have ever ruled this country has
suffered immeasurably at some point or the other in their lives,
whether it be before, during or after they came to power.
They too have shed tears in the loneliness of their closets and
have eaten portions of what the Bible describes as the ”bread of
sorrows”. Yes, even the rich and powerful cry and even they
suffer loss and tragedy.
This is the case for leaders all over the world but in Nigeria it is
far more pronounced and common than anywhere else.
Here the angel of death, misfortune and sorrow seem to stalk
those that find power and, like an ugly old crow plucks out the
pink feathers and precious eyes of a beautiful flamingo, she cuts
short and plucks away their lives or the lives of their loved ones.
Like a light bulb attracts a moth and leads it to a sudden end, so
power attracts those who seek it with equally tragic
consequences. As painful as it is, let us look at the facts.
In the early 60′s Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the first Premier of the
Western Region, lost his first son and years later his second son
and second daughter were cut short in the prime of their lives.
Chief S.L. Akintola, his bitter political rival and the second Premier
of the Western Region also lost his first daughter in the early 60′s
and a few years later lost his third and youngest son. His second
son was also cut short in his prime a number of years later.
My father, Chief Remilekun Fani-Kayode, the Deputy Premier of
the Western Region, who was a close ally and second in
command to S.L. Akintola, lost his second son.
Sir Adesoji Aderemi, who was the Ooni of Ife, a close ally of
Awolowo and the first ceremonial Governor of the old Western
Region, lost his first son. Chief Nnamdi Azikiwe, the Premier of
the old Eastern Region and Nigeria’s first and only ceremonial
President, lost his first wife.
President Olusegun Obasanjo, Nigeria’s second democratically-
elected President lost four wives and one son many years ago
whilst Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Premier of the Northern Region, lost
two sons and one daughter. Awolowo and Obasanjo went to jail
for three years each whilst Ahmadu Bello went to jail for three
months.
S.L. Akintola was killed in the prime of his life just as were
Ahmadu Bello and Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Nigeria’s first
democratically-elected leader and Prime Minister.
As a matter of fact they were all killed on the same night- the
night of January 15th 1966. President Shehu Shagari, Nigeria’s
second democratically-elected leader and first executive President
lost four children whilst he was in power and was locked up for
over two years after he was toppled.
Chief MKO Abiola, the winner of the June 12th 1993 Presidential
election, lost two wives, was locked up for 4 years and was
eventually killed.
Chief Bola Ige, the first democratically-elected Governor of Oyo
state and the former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice of
the Federation lost his first son and he himself was later
murdered.
Chief Bisi Onabanjo, the first democratically-elected Governor of
Ogun state lost his first son. Alhaji Lateef Jakande, the first
democratically elected Governor of Lagos state, lost his first
daughter.
Dr. Omololu Olunloyo, the second democratically-elected Governor
of Oyo state lost his son. Chief Festus Okotie-Eboh, the first
Minister of Finance of Nigeria was killed.
Chief Alfred Rewane, one of the founding members of the Action
Group and a leading figure in NADECO, was killed. The list is
endless and I could go on and on.
Alhaji Musa Yar’adua was Minister of Lagos Affairs in the First
Republic. He was blessed with a long and peaceful life. However
two of his sons were not so lucky.
His first son, General Shehu Musa Yar’adua, who was number two
to General Obasanjo when he was military Head of State and who
for many decades was one of the most powerful men in the
country, was murdered whilst he was in prison.
His second son, President Umaru Yar’adua, was cut short in his
prime by a strange and inexplicable ailment after he had been
President for only three years.
He was succeeded by his number two, Vice President Goodluck
Jonathan. Jonathan lost his brother and his mother-in-law one
year after the other after he became President.
Worse still those that he had been deputy to throughout his
political life, either as Deputy Governor or Vice President, always
suffered one form of misfortune or the other, whether it be death,
shame, incarceration or impeachment, and he would end up
stepping into their shoes and taking their place.
When it comes to our military rulers the story of consistent
tragedy is no different- General Aguiyi-Ironsi, our first military
Head of State was killed. General Yakubu Gowon, our second
military Head of State, was toppled from power, exiled and lost
his brother.
General Murtala Mohammed, our third military Head of State, was
killed and lost both his son and son-in-law.
General Olusegun Obasanjo was our fourth military Head of State
and we touched on his misfortunes earlier.
General Muhammadu Buhari, our fifth military Head of State, was
toppled from power, locked up for a number of years, lost his
mother whilst he was in detention and was not allowed to attend
her burial, lost his first wife, lost his daughter and now he has
publicly described his second wife as nothing more than a
"kitchen, living room and 'other room' wife".
His number two, General Tunde idiagbon, was cut short under
very strange and suspicious cirumstances.
General Ibrahim Babangida, our sixth military Head of State, was
eased out of power and compelled to ”step aside” amidst
massive controversy and turmoil and later lost his wife.
His number two, Rear Admiral Augustus Aikhomu, lost his first
son, Chief Ernest Shonekan, our first and only Interim Civilian
Head of State, was badly humiliated and toppled from power.
General Sani Abacha, our seventh military Head of State, lost his
first son, was removed from power and was killed.
General Abdulsalami Abubakar, our eigth military Head of State,
as far as I am aware is the only exception and appears to have
escaped any misfortune.
Yet the picture is very depressing. This is indeed a catalogue of
tragic events. Sorrow and pain just appears to be following
sorrow and pain. It is a vicious circle of misfortune and calamity.
Yet the most curious phenomenon and bizarre series of events of
all is the fact that every single Head of State or President that has
ruled our country from the Presidential Villa in Aso Rock, Abuja for
three years or more has either ended up dying whilst there or has
lost a spouse before leaving office.
President Jonathan stayed there as President for four years in a
stretch but the travails of his wife and her series of illnesses and
medical complications which suddenly and miraculously ceased
and abated after he conceeded the 2015 election indicates that
had he continued in office after 2015 he may have lost her and
the demons of Aso Rock Villa would have come for their prey.
Thankfully he left before they could lay claim to it and before the
curse was activated.
Babangida did not stay in the Villa in Abuja for up to three years
so he and his wife escaped what has come to be known as the
”Villa curse”.
It was the same for Chief Ernest Shonekan who, wisely, never
stayed at the Villa at all but who chose to preside over the affairs
of the nation from Aguda house next door and who remained in
power for barely six months. General Abdulsalami Abubakar
stayed at the Villa but he remained there for less than a year.
However Abacha, Obasanjo and Yar’adua were not so lucky- each
of them stayed at the Villa for three years or more and before the
end of their tenure they either lost their own life or the life of their
spouse whilst there.
The story is that once the three year mark is passed the curse
sets in and the clock begins to tick. At the end of the day only
one of the two spouses comes out alive.
When one considers all these facts and series of misfortunes that
have trailed our leaders in the last 56 years of our existence as
an independent nation one cannot but conclude that there has
indeed been a harvest of hardship, pain and death attached to the
highest, most powerful and most prominent offices in the land
and to those that are close to or have occupied it.
The truth is that power comes at a terrible price and those that
wield it have, more often than not, experienced terrible pain and
anguish in their lives.
That is the price that virtually every single one of them has had to
pay. What a tragedy. Yet at the end of the day I wonder whether
it is all worth it.
For as the bible says, it is nothing but ”vanity upon vanity- all is
vanity”.

Nigerians back Aisha Buhari, as she slams President

Several reactions have trailed Aisha Buhari’s comments that she may not back her husband, President Muhammadu Buhari, at the 2019 election unless he (the President) reshuffles his cabinet.

Aisha Buhari, had in a BBC Hausa interview, expressed her displeasure in President Buhari’s government, saying that the President does not know most of the appointees in his cabinet.

She also suggested that the President’s government had been hijacked by a few people, who were behind the presidential appointments.

In the interview, Mrs. Buhari said, “The president does not know 45 out of 50, for example, of the people he appointed and I don’t know them either, despite being his wife of 27 years.

“Some people are sitting down in their homes, folding their arms, only for them to be called to come and head an agency or a ministerial position.”

When asked to name those who had hijacked her husband’s government, she refused, saying, “You will know them if you watch television.”

On whether President was still in charge, she said, “That is left for the people to decide.”

Mrs. Buhari added that her husband had not told her whether he would contest the 2019 election.

She said, “He is yet to tell me, but I have decided as his wife, that if things continue like this up to 2019, I will not go out and campaign again and ask any woman to vote like I did before. I will never do it again.”

Meanwhile, Mrs. Buhari’s comments on her husband’s government have attracted both applause and criticisms by Nigerians.

For instance, the Convener of the Coalition of Northern Politicians, Academics, Professionals and Businessmen, Dr. Junaid mohammed, praised Aisha for forthrightness and described her comments as “100 per cent correct”.

Mohammed, who said Aisha’s honesty earned her his respect, added that she could have said more, considering the information at her disposal, but chose to be diplomatic.

He said, “From the bits I heard by myself and from friends whose judgements I respect, everything said by Mrs. Buhari is true. In fact, given the fact at her disposal, she has been very diplomatic because she could have said a lot more and mentioned names and positions like I did in the interview I had with Saturday PUNCH some weeks back. But she didn’t do that; she confined herself to what she said, which are all factual.

“Some of the facts she said are matters in which I have privileged information and knowledge, so I believe she was telling the truth and I do not want to question her motivation or listen to what people say. I believe it is in the interest of this country to listen to what she says before we are driven into a ditch by her husband.”

According to Mohammed, Aisha had the right to have made the comments because she was “speaking about her country and her nuclear family and she is the closest human being to the President.”

“When the chips are down, it is she, her children and Buhari’s children from his first marriage that will carry the burden. So nobody has the right to tell her what is appropriate or inappropriate,” he added.

National Publicity secretary of Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba organisation, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, also said being the “closest person to the Presiddent”, Aisha’s comments should not be ignored.

Odumakin said as Aisha noted, President Buhari should reshuffle his cabinet to accommodate competent people.

“The fact remains that being the wife of the President, her views cannot just be thrown away like that,” he said.

“You can count on your fingers the cabinet members that know what they are doing there. There is no impartial observer of the government that will not agree that this cabinet has not performed well. It took a long time for the President to appoint his cabinet members and we had expected something more. The President should reshuffle the team and make sure he puts on board people who can deliver.”

Mr. Victor Borubo, Ijaw National Congress Spokesperson, who stressed that he was giving his personal view and not that of the organisation, described the issues raised by Aisha “as valid”.

Borubo also called on the President to reshuffle his cabinet as suggested by his wife, saying, “A good number of people in the President’s cabinet are misfits and square pegs forcing themselves into round holes. So to that extent, I agree that a lot of the cabinet members should simply give way. What if a man he says is not corrupt is incompetent, what good is he to us?”

Chief Dele Momodu, the publisher of Ovation Magazine and a former presidential aspirant, also praised Aisha Buhari for her comments.

Momodu said the President’s wife said what he and some other supporters of the President had been saying for long and that if care was not taken, the party could further be divided.

He said, “Aisha Buhari’s comments are welcome. She has done what most Nigerian women and men cannot do — speaking the truth as it is, not minding that she’s a beneficiary of power. It shows she’s a forward-looking, intelligent and responsible woman who knows that life doesn’t begin and end in Aso Rock.

“If she had been telling her husband and he had not listened to her, now she has put it on record as a yardstick to judge her in the future. She should be celebrated.

“What she said is what many of us had been saying before, that some people have hijacked this government from the President. I have said it before and I remember the [Senate President] Dr. Bukola Saraki had also said it.

“Some people are saying she has no right to speak such things, but that’s not true. She has every right to do so, as the President’s wife and a public figure. Before the President won the election, she campaigned for him.

“So, she has the right to express what she feels about her husband’s government because she has so much to lose if her husband fails.”

Also, the presidential candidate of the National Conscience Party in the 2015 general election, Chief Martin Onovo, said Aisha said the truth and that her comments were reflections of the President’s weaknesses.

“It has been obvious for long that the President is not in control of the government. If you have been watching the situation of things, different officials in the APC hold different positions and always differ on issues.

“If the President is in control, this wouldn’t have been so. It shows weakness on the part of the President. He has always appeared to be constrained by some forces despite the powers conferred on him by the constitution.

“The President should know that authority and responsibility go hand-in-hand, so for whatever is happening, President Buhari should take responsibility.”

Onovo called on the President to display strength and not allow a cabal to run his government.

He said, “When a cabal runs a government, they further their selfish interests because they are behind the policies made. Hence, if the President cannot run the government, it shows weakness and failure.

“He should encourage national unity by inviting all groups and parties to participate in his government because diversity encourages innovation and development.”

Also, a former Special Assistant to former President Goodluck Jonathan on New Media, Mr. Reno Omokri, commended Mrs. Buhari for speaking out, though he described her as a “wailer.”

He wrote on his Facebook page, “Wow! This is explosive! Even Buhari’s wife has turned to a wailer! Aisha Buhari has told the BBC what we have been saying all these months. You need to watch/read this interview. It is well worth your time.

“His wife’s decision to go public with her concerns will shock many people, but it shows the level of discontent with the President’s leadership. Now, will all those who have had a field day attacking me for my criticism also attack the First Lady?”

The Special Assistant to Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose on Public Communication and New Media, Mr. Olalere Olayinka, also described the President’s wife as a “wailer.”

Obviously referring to the President Buhari’s supporters, he said, “Start attacking Aisha Buhari. And to the wailers, [there is] no need to wail again. Let Aisha Buhari do the wailing for now,” he wrote on Twitter.

In the same vein, reactions have been trailing Aisha’s interview on various social media platforms, where the news has been trending, with majority of them backing the wife of the President.

In a Facebook comment, Michael Gabriel said Mrs. Buhari’s comments showed how “poor” President Buhari was performing.

“It’s shocking to hear — that it’s coming from the First Lady herself only shows how abysmally the present government has performed so far,” he said.

“This is honesty. Even if it could cost her marriage, this woman still spilled the truth. We need people like her.”

Ifeanyichukwu Chigozie also said on Facebook that going by Mrs. Buhari’s comments, it was apparent that the current economic downturn was as a result of nepotism and corruption.

He said, “Nigerians are suffering, yet people are pretending as if everything is fine. The value of naira has dropped by 70 per cent over one year, yet you (President Buhari) are still blaming the previous President.

“We kept complaining of bad economic policies, nepotism and massive corruption, but our complaints were dismissed. It feels good now that Aisha Buhari is on-board with us.”

Mohammed Tahir also said, “Aisha Buhari must be commended for her courage. Her action should not be viewed as trying to gain favour from her husband. She has been with him for 27 years, she knows him well and he knows her well.

“She is the only one who will stand by him in victory and in failure, we won’t be there. Therefore, we must listen to her very attentively. To me, she is patriotic and wants to free her husband from the cabal.”

Alphonsus Ogbennaya said on Twitter, “This is patriotism and love for her husband at play. Her advice must have been rejected privately, that’s why she went public, because if her husband fails, she and her kids will also share the blame. Thanks, Aisha, for your boldness.”

But some others condemned the President’s wife’s comments.

A political analyst Hatab Fadera also said it was wrong for Mrs. Buhari to have gone public with her opinions.

He said on Facebook, “I think it is her fundamental right to say in public whatever she feels is not right. However, I refuse to understand the necessity of her points. I disagree in total that she has to necessarily know who the President can and cannot appoint.

Reacting to the development, an Abuja based legal practitioner and former National Secretary of the Labour Party, Kayode Ajulo, expressed doubts over the authenticity of the story.

He said, “I doubt it if the President’s wife said some of the things being ascribed to her.”

Fani Kayode reacts to sealing of PDP convention venue, blames Sheriff

Former aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has reacted to the shutting down of the the convention venue of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP by security operatives.

               Femi Fani-Kayode

In a Facebook rant Fani-Kayode wrote, "When I warned our people about Buhari and what he would do with power no-one listened. When I warned Pdp Nigeria and particularly our PDP governors about the dangers of making Ali Modu Sheriff National Chairman they would not listen. I also told them that the government would NOT allow the convention to hold because Sheriff is working for them.

''Now look at what they are doing in PH in collusion with some corrupt judges just to destabilise, destroy and silence the opposition. Governors put under house arrest. Convention venue sealed off.

It is shameful. Let me make a another prediction: this is just the beginning of their tyranny. It will get far worse. That is "mai chanji" for you! The sooner the leaders of the PDP wake up, smell the coffee and appreciate the kind of monster they are dealing with and the sooner they elect and select leaders that are prepared to risk their lives and liberty to confront this government the better. If you want democracy and freedom you must be prepared to confront the dictator and fight for it. Where there is no justice there can be no peace."

Nigeria to experience annular eclipse on September 1

An annular eclipse will occur in all parts of the country with different degrees of totality on Thursday September 1st, 2016.

This is according to a statement released by the Head, Media and Corporate Communications of National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Felix Ale yesterday August 16th.

According to the statement, the highest degree of obscurity in Nigeria during the annular eclipse would be in the Southern part of Nigeria, particularly in Lagos, where it was expected to have 80 per cent obscurity, while the lowest degree of obscurity would be about 45 per cent and this would be observed in the Northern part of the country, particularly in Sokoto. in Abuja, the annular eclipse will be observed at about 60%.

The eclipse is expected to occur between 7.15 a.m. and 10.03 a.m, with slight variations in actual timing across the country. In Lagos, the first contact will occur at about 7.15 a.m, while the maximum eclipse will occur around 8.30 a.m. and will end by 10.03 a.m.

The eclipse is expected to commence in Abuja around 7.17 a.m, with maximum eclipse to be recorded at about 8.32 a.m. and the eclipse will end around 10.00 a.m. The statement warns that the eclipse is not a spiritual issue but a natural occurrence that can be accurately predicted by science. It warned that nobody should observe eclipse with naked eyes as such act can lead to permanent damage to the eyes.

The Space agency appealed to the general public not to panic or attach any mystical interpretations to this event.

An annular eclipse occurs when the sun and moon are exactly in line, but the apparent size of the moon is smaller than that of the sun, hence, the sun appears as a very bright ring or annulus surrounding the dark disk of the moon. https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFUoFwdhJL_qUOPa8f3mzRNCfosESMU3yjgfdYXK13-y8zq_v02XaZNoCntQeOh5kiU6xeu-jQkGwk73K01Pq6IHBsUB7WHPbU0dRLdr8fxZHOObMrr5VwB_ACh2hMTuP8vlhRiOAM9Xc/s1600/annular.JPG

Hardship: Help calm Nigerians, Buhari begs clerics

Amidst growing complaints on the various challenges facing Nigerians, President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday appealed to Muslim clerics to help his administration calm Nigerians down.

He said his government was aware of challenges facing the average citizen, hence the need for clerics to carry the message of hope to the people that things will improve.

According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President made the appeal during a meeting he had with the Council of Abuja Imams at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“Keep calming the people. The leadership at various levels is trying to solve problems of poverty, unemployment and insecurity bedeviling the country,” Buhari requested religious leaders throughout the country.

He explained to the clerics that the Federal Government chose to give priority to agriculture in order to create jobs for unemployed citizens and give the country food security.

He said although efforts had begun, there was a bigger plan for the provision of fertilizers, insecticides and land preparations starting from 2017.

The President requested state governments and community leaders across the country to organise the population into cooperative societies to key into the agriculture reforms programme, stressing that “extension services, not money will be provided.”

Buhari also intimated the religious leaders on the efforts being put in place to improve power supply in the country.

Thank God For Buhari ,Things were so hard, i almost fled to Cameroon during Jonathan’s regime – Lamido

Lamido Adamawa, Dr. Muhammadu Mustapha, on Thursday in Yola, said insecurity under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan almost forced him into fleeing the country. He said his best option was migrating to Cameroon, which shares international boundary with Adamawa State.

Mustapha however said the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari in the last election halted the move.

Although he contemplated leaving the state and relocating to Cameroon, he said the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari and the determination of the administration to curb insecurity, and its success in that regards, helped to made him stay.

Lamido Adamawa said this during the commencement of the construction of two major township roads in the state.

The state Governor, Mohammed Jibrilla, led his deputy, Martins Babale, and other key members of his cabinet, including the state Commissioner for Works, Lilian Stephen, to officially unveil the construction of the Yolde-Pate link road, on Thursday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mustapha blamed the soaring insecurity under the administration of former President Goodluck as the factor that forced people to flee the area.

“You will agree with me that just two years ago, all of us here were preparing to leave. I was also planning to leave for Cameroon. But God, in His mercies, brought us peace. He brought us Muhammadu Buhari and we can all attest to the works of his hands, especially in the aspect that has to do with the security of lives,” the top monarch said.

Lamido also said that insecurity, which used to be a nightmare, literally disappeared under President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said, “Insecurity, which used to be our worst night mare, has now become an issue that is now of less concern.

“May God Almighty continue to guide everyone who is a part of this and keep them in good health and grant them peace, just as they are also working tirelessly to give us peace.”

No one in this world can prove I stole Rivers State money – Former governor, Rotimi Amaechi

Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, has denied allegations that he embezzled money meant for the development of Rivers state when he was governor. Amaechi said this while speaking at a stakeholders’ forum on corruption organised by the Federal Ministry of Justice in Abuja today July 28th.

“If you had followed the Rivers State government when I was governor, we were the first state to introduce the Public Procurement Law in the country. The state cabinet used to call the Director General of Public Procurement in the state as an alternative governor, that they wanted an amendment to that law. The reason they wanted amendment is that he (DG) refused to increase the threshold to one hundred million naira, per ministry, instead he reduced it to 10 million naira.

I had a battle with him (DG BPE) and the world bank who insisted that we should not go for an amendment but should persuade him to increase the threshold.

I remember the cabinet tried to go to court against him and I remember that he was also trying to go to court against Commissioners. In fact, the procurement DG wrote a memo that I felt was very incriminating requesting that since the law requires the governor to take any commissioner who doesn’t comply with the public procurement law to court, I should please take the commissioner of education to court for not complying… Everybody in the cabinet felt that he was an alternative governor, they felt that he was slowing the process,” he said.

Mr. Amaechi said transparency in the use of public funds was key to his administration as governor, and that the Rivers community was fully briefed periodically on how funds were being utilised.

“Within that period we insisted on engaging the indigenous communities on how much we received and how we spent the money. That is why I feel that after this ministerial appointment, I should do everything possible to stay away from government because in spite of all the forms of transparency I introduced in government, one man could begin to tell lies to Nigerians and Nigerians believe him. The governor of Rivers State said I squandered N3 trillion naira.

I did not receive up to N1.8 trillion naira as governor both from IGR and funds from federal allocation. So, how could I have squandered money I did not even receive in the first place? You can see the politics of lies and lies. As Minister of Transportation, I run an open and transparent system. I believe in name and shame. What name and shame does is, if you name and shame those of them who don’t have conscience they won’t come to public functions. I do have conscience.

In fact, it was the word corruption that brought me to this occasion because I wanted to see who will get up and say to me, ‘this is evidence that you are corrupt. We went to court against the Rivers State government on their allegation of corruption against me. The Court of Appeal said, produce that document that found this man (Amaechi) guilty of those crimes and up till today he (Wike) has not produced it,” he said.

Dogara invaded committee secretariat, seized computers – Jibrin

The former Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, Abdulmumin Jibrin, on Thursday claimed that the Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara and three other principal officers he accused of inserting billions into the 2016 budget are attempting to obstruct justice.

The lawmaker said Dogara and others are trying to obstruct justice by seizing information relevant to the allegation and impeding investigations.

A statement issued by Jibrin on Thursday reads:

“Speaker Dogara has ordered that all the computers in the appropriation secretariat be shut down and moved to his office as if that is the answer to the allegations I raised.

“The secretariat workers are being harassed to keep quiet and suppress facts. There has also been an attempt to break into my office at the House.

“I know he wants to tamper with documents critical to his and three others future investigation and prosecution but unfortunately for him we already have enough evidence in our possession. The security and anti -corruption agencies should kindly take note. ”

Speaking on the press briefing organised by Gombe Reps Caucus which accused him of waging a “campaign of calumny,” he said:

“Five members of the Gombe caucus addressed the press today (Thursday) in a show of shame and succeeded in only rehearsing the accusation of lies leveled against me by Speaker Dogara.

“Two of them are part of the list of corrupt members I will be submitting to the EFCC. My response to them is they should simply read my full reply released yesterday and join the Transparency Group (TG), an alliance of hundreds of members to cleanse the House of corruption and corrupt members.

“They should act honourably by calling on Speaker Dogara to listen to the call of Nigerians to reconvene the House immediately so that an independent investigation can commence.”

When the Special Adviser to the Speaker on Media and Public Affairs, Turaki Hassan, was contacted on the issue, he declined to react to the allegation.

Turkey coup sponsors/terrorists own schools, hospitals in Nigeria – Turkish embassy warns

The Government of Turkey, on Thursday, said it had alerted the Federal Government on the existence of schools and hospitals owned by suspected terrorists in Nigeria.

It demanded that the facilities be shut down.

Turkey said it had officially notified the Nigerian government on the existence of the schools, which bear the name of the country but are not owned by it.

The Ambassador of Turkey to Nigeria, Mr. Hakan Cakil, while speaking to the Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Shehu Sani, when the latter paid the diplomat a visit at his Abuja office, said the owners of the schools sponsored the recent coup in Turkey.

Sani was there in company with select journalists, including our correspondent.

The envoy said the institutions, which ranged from schools to hospitals, were allegedly owned by the Fethullah Gulen Terrorist Organisation allegedly founded by Fethullag Gulen.

The Turkish government, which stated that the country does not own any school in Nigeria, said similar schools established in Turkey had been shut down.

According to the ambassador, confessions by the coup plotters, who are currently under investigation, have indicated that the same syndicate which hatched the botched July 15, 2016, coup, own the schools in Nigeria.

Cakil said the organisation and its investments had enjoyed wide acceptance by the public in Turkey until suspected coupists confessed to using the organisations for terrorist activities.

He said all the schools owned by the organisation had been shut down by the Turkish government as of last week.

But when contacted, the Director of Press and Public Communication, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Clement Aduku, said he was not aware of the letter by the Turkish mission.

“I have not seen any such of communications yet, but will find out from our principals if they have seen or received any update on the matter,” he said in an SMS.
