As the 2015 general elections finally came knocking, many things conjectured the mind-sets of Nigerians as regards the 16 years tight-held power by then PDP administration; whether the baton will ever swing and change trend to another party. Many patted their chests; that the bandwagon would continue unshaken, because, then direct opposition party was not equal or above par to the incumbent party – many enthusiasms-giving talks. But after all said and done, either the power or the PDP relinquished the other. Nobody saw that coming, or few did, that undisputed PDP-controlled democracy would ever end, perhaps on nadir. So excruciating, after the democratic and undemocratic hullabaloos.
That being history, and new democratic paradigm ushered into our democracy – fresh democratic blood. Histories began unfolding themselves to ever-ready Nigerians. The “Nobody Saw These Coming” began tremoring and shuddering Nigerians. Countless posers began as the eventual winner, President Muhammadu “Okechukwu” Buhari took on the mantled at Aso Rock to pilot the affairs of Nigeria for four (4) years, if at all that won’t have another four years extension. Some divide would be hissing right now. But that’s constitutionally predictive.
Nobody Saw These Coming:
* President Muhammadu “Okechukwu” Buhari would be the president of Nigeria after many futile tries, he came close to winning in previous races. Yes! I mean “races” – he ran, ran, and ran. But finally he won against all odd – even against the international communities’ doomed prophecy of Nigeria’s 2015 disintegration.
* Nobody saw it coming; Mr. Buhari’s enthusiasts trekking to London from Nigeria, and some would trek from Abuja to Aba, some from Lagos to Kampala, and where have you?
* The Ministerial nomination and credibility screening took us by surprise, not because it took the presidency more than eight (8) months to come up with the names of his saints, but that some saints on the list were actually with misappropriation allegations hanging on their necks, they are deemed repentant of the sins, executively but never judicially. Such was undreamed of, going by the “I-belong-to-everybody-and-belong-to-nobody” pledge.
* Not even the president himself saw it coming; the almighty “Budget of Change” being padded. By who? Change angels, or perhaps their servants. Very startling.
* Nobody saw it coming; that the Niger Delta militancy revolution would bore another child after MEND, in the identity of Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), after huge billions of dollars were appropriated or rather misappropriated by; then NDDC handlers, Minister of Niger Delta, Elder Orubebe, and their outwitted boss from the Niger Delta – GEJ?
The NDA also gave birth to multiple children, from “Joint Niger Delta Liberation Force” (JNDLF) to such names many won’t fancy flooding the piece. These Niger Delta groups or sects are slow-pacing the prospects of the “Budget of Change” implementation.

* Nobody imagined the scarcely lucrative Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) would start with twenty (20) teams, but along the way reduced to nineteen (19) teams. The eventual demised club being owned by notorious NFF factional president who goofily appointed a dead match official for an NPFL game. Nigerians were petrified.
* We were mourning PDP election forfeiture when they announced rejuvenated party administrator to pilot the party affairs, only to later disband the caretaker squad, for a Senator, and then all hell let loose of chaos and counter court cases. Nobody saw this coming.
* Nobody saw it coming; risqué Senator, Dino Melaye and his Senate wife, Senator Remi Tinubu displaying their show of asininity during an executive session of the hallowed chambers. It took us by surprise like a wide wind from Sahara. Even extending their rascality to the street of Bourdillon.
We heard words like “Dog” “Thug” and some other tags not worthy of legislative mentions – some heard “Impregnate”, well that was it.
Save the policy it was APA vs APC, political melodrama would have been dragged into the whole personality malformation thing.

* That being that, another shocker hit the entire footballing nation. Nobody thought of it. Our darling Super Eagles made strides retrogressively; 70th in world FIFA ranking and 17th in Africa.
Some divide said it doesn’t count, some said it’s not compulsory. But the thing remains that the rating would have effects on seeding of group games. The ranking relegated the already dented image of the Green-White nation, once powerhouse of African football, competing with teams like the Luxembourgian national team. We also engaged them on a friendly game! Perhaps, why Super Eagles were seeded close to them, so they could play nearby and always. Nobody saw this coming. The same Super Eagles announced the appointment of a foreign Technical Adviser who disclaimed he had been contacted for the job. We were all taken aback. How can?

Which should make the list and which should be disregarded?
Surprises the new-fangled political party administration glared. Is it the fresh tomatoes once bought for N100 that recently soared in price more than a bottle of beer? Or the Naira which was “technically” devalued, hitting N350 to a dollar. “Technically”; that was how the Finance Minister tagged it before the Senate. She stated that our economy has been in “technical recession”.

Nobody saw this coming; the Budget of Change would no longer be funded as projected, as the oil market has been “fantastically” shutdown by the landlords of the Delta.
Our strong business ally once tagged us “fantastically corrupt” and all land plunge into higgledy-piggledy. In justification: the presidency and their Police chiefs published the one-year-in-office achievements to include; dismantling of roadblocks and removal of curfew in our roads and nation. But from Abia state to Imo state alone houses almost twenty (20) roadblocks, and in fact, Abia state and some other states are under curfew. Now, fantastically corrupt or not?
Nigerian Navy officials are also out of the waterways and shores, for the roadblocks; handling civil issues meant for the NSCDC and the Police, not force; welcome to Abia state.
The achievement file (one year in office) has also in it thus; “Effective management of the separatist Biafra movement”. When roughly above ten (10) diehards of this group had been reportedly deceased in the period of one year, and few others in gammy, how can the phrase “effective management” be vindicated? To dredge up fact that one Nnamdi Kanu, under the asylum of the federal government has not seen justice and fair trial to his ambit speaks volume about the “ineffective management” of the so called separatist.
Nobody saw these coming, and more surprises join the bandwagon. Since the masses have been figuratively anaesthetized against the deleterious ripple of the trends, they would continue to treat the symptoms and not the disease, while wigwagging in cradle songs.
God Help Nigeria.
